Le Consort

Concert Hall at the Jack H. Miller

Le Consort is a baroque chamber ensemble comprised of four young musicians who interpret the trio sonata repertoire with enthusiasm, sincerity, and modernity. The dialogue between the two violins and the basso continuo (harpsichord and cello) displays a wealth of contrasts between vocality, sensuality, and virtuosity. Le Consort takes this genre, the quintessence of baroque chamber music, and interprets it with a personal, dynamic, and colorful language. Their performance at Hope College will explore the enchanting subtleties of the English baroque as influenced by Italian solar brilliance and virtuosity. Three composers will be under the limelight: Henry Purcell, Nicolas Matteis, and Miss Philharmonica, a mysterious female composer who published her sonatas in 1715. Let yourself be seduced by English charm with a glimpse of Italian virtuosity, including some of Vivaldi and Corelli's most popular works. Joining us for this musical journey will delight and surprise you by offering plenty of familiar music alongside some genuine discoveries.
